Mr Nigel Mendoza is a Consultant Neurosurgeon, who practices at the Charing Cross Hospital, The Cromwell Hospital, The Princess Margaret Hospital and the Sports Orthopaedic Spinal Clinic in Weybridge. Nigel Mendoza’s specialist areas of clinical interest are related to the surgical treatment of skull base tumours such as acoustic neuroma and pituitary tumours, as well as the surgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia.
He also has a specialist interest in the management of disorders of the spine relating to both the non-surgical and surgical management due to the wide range of pathologies, which may affect the spine from occipito-cervical to lumbar sacral junction.
Nigel Mendoza's personal philosophy regarding the surgical treatment of the most common disorders due to degenerative spine disease is one of a conservative approach, and one in which the patient decides when they would wish to undergo surgical treatment, if indeed an operation were indicated. However, the most important factor in the management of patients with degenerative spinal disorders is not so much the surgical treatment, which in the scheme of things is rarely indicated, but a clear explanation to the patient as to what the exact nature of the problem is, and the natural history, as well as reassurance that an acute exacerbation will usually resolve.
